How To Install WordPress On Cloudways (2024)

Once you have created a Cloudways account for your hosting, it’s time to install WordPress for your website.

I’ll show you all the steps you need to install WordPress and set it up with your domain.

Let’s get started.

Create a WordPress application in Cloudways

With Cloudways, you get a cloud server. And you install applications on that server based on your needs. You also install WordPress as an application in Cloudways.

In your Cloudways dashboard, select the Applications tab to see all existing applications. If you have created none, it will be empty.

Click the Add Application button on the top right so you can start creating your WordPress application.

Select the Cloudways server in the pop up and click the Add Application button so it can start creating the WordPress application.

Now you can Select Application as WordPress (select the latest version).

Use the Name your App space to give a name to your WordPress application (this can be any name you choose).

And‌ you can Select your Project where you want to add your WordPress application (optional)

Here is how it looks when I’ve selected to install WordPress Version 6.2.2. Given my application the name My application. And selected a Project that I had already created.

Click the Add Application button to create your WordPress application on the Cloudways server.

Once you create the WordPress application, you’ll see it in the list of applications under the Applications tab. Click on this application to go into the Application Management.

In the Access Details, you’ll see the URL for your WordPress website under the APPLICATION URL section.

If you want to access the WordPress dashboard, use the URL, Username, and Password under the ADMIN PANEL section.

Set up domain with WordPress application

Select Domain Management on the left panel in Application Management. Click on ADD DOMAIN to add the domain name you have purchased.

Enter the domain name you purchased and click on the ADD DOMAIN button

Then make your added domain as the primary domain by selecting the Make Primary option on the right side.

Set up SSH certificate with WordPress application

Select the SSL Certificate option in the left panel of Application Management.

Add your domain email and domain name in the options provided. And click the INSTALL CERTIFICATE button.

Once the SSL Certificate is installed, make sure the AUTO RENEWAL option is set to Enable.

Set up DNS records with domain registrar

Now all that’s left to get your WordPress website functional is to set up some DNS records with your domain registrar.

I use Namecheap as my domain registrar and would recommend the same. Here are the steps you need to add the DNS records.

First, get the required information from the Cloudways Dashboard. Go to the Applications tab and select the WordPress Application you created.

Here you’ll find the public IP under APPLICATION CREDENTIALS. Copy that to Notepad.

Login to your Namecheap Dashboard. Go to the Domain List and click on the Manage button for your particular domain.

Go to the Advanced DNS tab where you can add the DNS records.

Add the two DNS records for your domain

Click the ADD NEW RECORD button and select A Record. Point the A Record to the IP address you copied from Cloudways as below.

  • Type: A
  • Host/Name: @ or blank
  • Value/Target: Your Cloudways WordPress Application IP address
  • TTL: Automatic/Default or select of your choice

Click the ADD NEW RECORD button and select A Record. Point the A Record to the IP address you copied from Cloudways as below.

  • Type: A
  • Host/Name: www
  • Value/Target: Your Cloudways WordPress Application IP
  • TTL: Automatic/Default or select of your choice

Click the green checkmarks to confirm adding both the records.

Conclusion

That is all you need to install WordPress on your Cloudways server.

You’ll be able to access your WordPress website by visiting your domain. You may need to wait a few hours until the DNS propagation is complete.

Now that you have installed WordPress, let me show you how to login to the WordPress dashboard and set up a theme and plugins.
